Under the United States Department of Labor, there is the arm in it known as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration docket which is popularly referred to as OSHA. This department, OSHA, basically acts as the national public health agency whose primary function is to ensure that there is such a safe and healthful working environment for the general public wherever they may be assigned duties out there.
Generally speaking, OSHA is tasked with a number of responsibilities all that are concerned with ensuring this is achieved, workplace safety and health. Such are like the setting and enforcing the work related exposure standards added to the provision of training, outreach, assistance and education that relate to these particular standards and ideals towards occupational safety.
In the year 1971 as a strategy to drive this agenda, there was created the OSHA Outreach Training Program. Ideally, this program was targeted for the need to educate employees that work in the construction industry. By and large, OSHA Outreach Training Program was actually designed and purposed for the need to “promote workplace safety and health and to make workers more knowledgeable about workplace hazards and their rights,” borrowing from their statement.
We all know or rather need to appreciate that looking at the need to ensure workplace safety and hazard awareness, the role played by education and training cannot be underestimated or opposed. This is looking at the fact that these happen to be so resourceful tools for the need to ensure that there is achieved as much information to the workers and managers on the workplace hazards and the controls that should and must be put in place so as to ensure that there is achieved as much when it comes to the need to make their workplaces more safe and as well boost their productivity. Over and above this, you need to know of the fact that there is a need for education and training so as to provide the workers and managers with the better understanding of the very health and safety program itself as a way to ensure that they get to contribute to its development and implementation.
This is the where the whole concept of “train the trainer” model sprung from. With this program, those who complete the supposed OSHA Training Institute courses become trainers as OSHA Outreach trainers. These OSHA Outreach trainers will stand authorized to conduct either 10 hour or 30 hour OSHA training courses for those in the construction and general industry.
